Founder & President
Prior to founding Compass, Chris was a Project Finance banker, Senior Vice President at Fortis Bank where he focused on energy financings. While at Fortis Bank, and previously at MeesPierson and Citibank, Chris worked on numerous conventional power projects, including combined cycle and simple cycle gas fired facilities, circulating fluidized bed boilers (coal fired) and pumped storage facilities (hydro), along with a number of electric distribution and transmission projects. Chris was twice honored by Project Finance magazine as the lead banker for Fortis Bank on the Desert Sky Wind Farm and Three Wind Holdings transactions, which received “North American Renewables Deal of the Year” in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Chris holds a BS in Economics from James Madison University and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University.
Ilan has spent over 15 years in the energy sector in various development, operating, and finance roles in the conventional and renewable power sectors with a particular focus on analytics, meteorological resource management, development, trading, and structuring. Prior to joining Compass, Ilan was Director of Finance at Clipper Windpower and also spent time with GE Wind and Enron Wind, resulting in 850+ MW of installed wind project capacity. A selection of transactions Ilan was involved with include Titan Wind Farm (SD), Clear Sky (TX), Colorado Green (CO), Silver Star (TX), Endeavor (IA), Flying Cloud (IA), and Accroven S.R.L. OPIC/ExIm financing (Venezuela). Ilan holds a BS in Business Administration and a Master of Professional Accounting, both from the University of Texas at Austin.
Brad has practiced law in the renewable sector for over 12 years. Before joining Compass, Brad focused on solar and wind development transactions, representing developers, landowners, equipment designers and manufacturers (including manufacturers selling to major wind turbine OEMs) in various transactions, involving development issues, renewable energy leases, and project sales. Brad represented landowners in connection with projects involving over 20 different developers in five states. Brad has been invited to present on landowner & development issues at conferences in Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Montana. Brad holds a BA in Philosophy from Millsaps College and a JD from Tulane University. Brad is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Louisiana (inactive) and is AV rated by martindale.com.
Consulting Project Development
Kyle has been involved in the renewable energy sector for over eight years. He primarily focuses on land acquisition, government affairs, public relations, permitting, and environmental matters. Before joining Compass, Kyle spent several years at Clipper Windpower where he acquired permits and evaluated environmental constraints and risks for approximately 800 MW of the company’s development portfolio. Kyle’s prior experience includes advancing recycling policies and practices with the Container Recycling Institute in Washington, DC and implementing sustainable forestry initiatives with the Peace Corps in Ghana. Kyle holds a BA in Political Science from St. Olaf College and a JD from Vermont Law School, which has a nationally top-ranked environmental law program. Kyle is licensed to practice law in Maine and the District of Columbia.
