Spion Kop Project Summary
Our team celebrated the on-time and on-budget completion of the Spion Kop project in the fourth quarter of 2012. The 40 MW project, located in a Class II wind regime, was transferred to NorthWestern Energy (NorthWestern) on November 15, 2012 pursuant to an Asset Purchase Agreement executed on April 8, 2011. The project is located within approximately 4,000 contiguous acres in Judith Basin County, Montana near the towns of Geyser and Raynesford. General Electric supplied 25 model 1.6-82.5 wind turbines and is operating and maintaining the turbines under a 10-year agreement. NorthWestern’s purchase of the project received the formal approval of the Montana Public Service Commission on February 16, 2012. The Spion Kop project helps NorthWestern meet the requirements of Montana’s renewable portfolio standard.
